構成規律：規則變化
單音節詞和部分雙音節詞
一般加 –est ， 如：
strong—strongest，fast—fastest
以不發音的e結尾， 加-st
nice—nicest, large- largest
以輔音加y結尾, 改y為i, 加-est
happy — happiest
輔音字母結尾的重讀閉音節詞，雙寫末尾的輔音字母，加-est, thin — thinnest
多音節詞， 和部分雙音節詞， 在詞的前面加most
outgoing — most outgoing
形容詞最高級的用法
1. 形容詞的最高級前一般要加定冠詞the，但如果其前有形容詞性物主代詞或名詞所有格等修飾語時，則不再用定冠詞the。如：
This is the oldest theater in London.
He is my / Tom’s best friend.
2. 形容詞的最高級常與介詞in或of短語連用，說明比較范圍。一般情況下，如果主語與介詞短語中的名詞屬于同一類，用介詞of；如果不是同一類，則用介詞in。如：
He is the tallest of these boys.
Sam is the youngest in his class.
3. 形容詞的最高級前可用序數詞，二者共同修飾后面的名詞，其結構為“the +序數詞 + 形容詞的最高級 + 名詞”。如：
The Yellow River is the second longest river in China.
